The following are four of the most memorable dates over a 20-year period
of a most exciting, successful, and challenging engineering exploit known as
the Hexagon, a reconnaissance satellite.
The first was in May 1966 when Chester Nimitz, Jr., CEO of the Perkin-
Elmer Corporation and the son of the famous World War II admiral, stood
up at the end of a final proposal presentation to our customer, the CIA, and
put his foot up on a table and said, “We want this f————g job and we’re
gonna get every f————g agency and every f————g engineer from
here to Florida. We recognize the importance to national security and we’re
capable of doing the job.” |
